The Research and Industry Community of Portugal working in Quantum Technologies was invited to gather at the Academy of Sciences in Lisbon to participate in the “Workshop on Quantum Technologies in Portugal“, held on November 25 (2016). The president of the FCT, Paulo Ferrão opened the event and the head of the European Quantum Technologies Flagship Initiative, Gustav Kalbe gave insights into the process of building the Flagship initiative, inviting us to contribute via contacting the international expert group that is currently shaping the roadmap for the flagship. The timeline of the EC-supported initiative involves a ramp-up phase starting with a 26 countries participating in a QuantERA COFUND program – the largest ERA-NET ever created, which is expected to open its call in January 2017.
Invited speakers from various Portuguese institutions were presenting, including: Armando Pinto (IT&UAveiro) and Paulo Mateus (IT&IST), Bruno Gonçalves (IPFN), Helder Crespo (U Porto, Sphere Photonics), Diana Leitao (INESC-MN & IST), Yasser Omar (IT & IST) and Jana Nieder (QuantaLab, INL).
Jana presented her research on quantum coherent energy transfer processes and some proposed research lines in the frame of quantum wires and photonic nanomagnetometry, for which a setup is currently being developed in the “Ultrafast Bio- and Nanophotonics” group. Importantly, besides having the possibility to show INL short institutional video that reflects the potential of INL’s research infrastructure to make a big step forward in Quantum Materials and Technologies .
